Master of Advanced Studies (MAS)
The Master of Advanced Studies (MAS) in Orthodontics and Aligner Therapy is a part-time continuous professional education program that provides dentists with advanced postgraduate training in the diagnosis and treatment of malocclusions and jaw abnormalities.
The program comprises 120 ECTS credits, divided into 80 ECTS for teaching modules and 40 ECTS for the Master’s thesis. The curriculum is based on the latest scientific standards in orthodontics and incorporates both traditional and modern digital treatment methods. Students acquire comprehensive skills in diagnostics, treatment planning and the use of fixed and removable appliances, as well as modern aligner therapy.

| Orthodontic Anatomy, Growth & Tooth Movement This module provides a comprehensive understanding of craniofacial anatomy and the growth processes relevant to orthodontic treatment. |
| Orthodontic Diagnostics I – Clinical Examination & Model Analysis This module covers the fundamentals of orthodontic diagnostics, with a focus on systematic clinical examination and model analysis. |
| Orthodontic Diagnostics II – Cephalometry & Digital Imaging This module covers radiological diagnostics in orthodontics, with a focus on cephalometry. |
| Removable Appliances & Functional Orthodontics This module covers removable orthodontic appliances and functional orthodontics. |
| Fixed Appliances – Fundamentals & Bracket Systems This module covers the fundamentals of fixed orthodontics. |
| Biomechanics I – Fundamentals of Force Application This module covers the biomechanical principles of orthodontic tooth movement. |
| Biomechanics II & Special Cases This module deepens students’ knowledge of biomechanics and covers specialised techniques for complex cases. |
| Anchorage and TADs This module covers skeletal anchorage using temporary anchorage devices (TADs). |
| Interdisciplinary Functional Concepts: TMD, OSA & Myofunctional Therapy This module covers the interdisciplinary interfaces in orthodontics. |
| Orthognathic Surgery This module covers combined orthodontic and oral and maxillofacial surgical treatment for skeletal dysgnathia. |
| Adult and Perio-Prosthetic Orthodontics This module covers complex orthodontic cases and the specific features of adult orthodontics. |
| Aligner Planning & Digital Workflow This module covers aligner treatment and the digital workflow in modern orthodontics. |
| Aligner Treatment, Lingual Orthodontics and Aesthetics This module covers lingual orthodontics and other aesthetic treatment options. |
| Treatment Finishing, Retention & Stability This module covers the completion of treatment, retention and long-term stability of orthodontic treatment outcomes. |
| Case Presentation & Clinical Integration This concluding module serves to integrate all the knowledge and skills acquired through the presentation of students’ own treatment cases. Students demonstrate the complete treatment process from the initial examination through to retention. |
The Master’s thesis comprises 40 ECTS credits (approx. 1,200 working hours) and marks the completion of the postgraduate Master’s program. The thesis is a systematic review, with or without a meta-analysis, and must make an original scientific contribution to the field. The thesis is supervised by a member of the teaching staff and assessed by two independent examiners. The oral defense takes place before an examination board.

Teaching Format
The program follows a blended-learning approach: 27 days of face-to-face teaching for hands-on practice and 17 online days for theory and case discussions. The modules take place in blocks and are designed to be compatible with professional commitments.

- Completed degree in dentistry
- Valid license to practice
- At least 1 year of clinical professional experience
