MAS Specialized Interdisciplinary Dental Management

Master of Advanced Studies (MAS)

The Master of Advanced Studies (MAS) Specialized Interdisciplinary Dental Management is a part-time postgraduate continuing education programme for dentists. The programme comprises 60 ECTS and is completed in two semesters. It consists of six taught modules of 5 ECTS each (30 ECTS) and a master’s thesis of 30 ECTS. Modules 1-4 are completed in semester 1; Modules 5-6 in semester 2. Work on the master’s thesis starts in semester 2.

Programme Structure by Module

Module 1: Leadership, Team Management & Organizational Psychology in Dental Practice

This module covers leadership, team management and organizational psychology in dental practice. Key topics include leadership roles, motivation, team dynamics, psychological safety, conflict management, feedback, staff development and change management.

Modul 2: Communication in dental practice with Teams and Patients

The module addresses patient-centred consultation, informed consent, expectation management, shared decision-making, adherence support and long-term care. It also trains team communication, handoffs, feedback and difficult conversations.

Module 3: Lean Management, Practice Organization and Value Creation

This module transfers Lean management principles to periodontal and implant practice organization.

Students analyse value streams, waste and bottlenecks and develop standard work, 5S, visual management, capacity management and continuous improvement

Module 4: Artificial Intelligence in dental practice 

The module provides foundations and clinical applications of artificial intelligence in periodontology and implantology. It covers machine learning, deep learning and generative AI as well as imaging, diagnostics, treatment planning, documentation and practice organization. Key topics include validation, bias, data protection, transparency and human oversight.

Module 5: Scientific Research Methods and Academic Writing

This module provides the methodological foundation for the master’s thesis. It covers evidence-based practice, PICO/PECO, study designs, systematic literature searching, data extraction, risk-of-bias assessment, statistical interpretation, academic writing, referencing and development of a research protocol.

Module 6: Interdisciplinary Management of Combined Orthodontic, Periodontal and Implant Cases

This module develops structured interdisciplinary planning and coordination of complex cases in which orthodontic, periodontal and implant treatment objectives must be integrated. Key topics include shared diagnostics, treatment sequencing, periodontal risk control before and during orthodontic tooth movement, pre-implant orthodontics, timing of implant procedures, interdisciplinary case conferences, responsibilities, documentation and long-term stability.

Masterthesis

The master’s thesis comprises 30 ECTS (approximately 900 working hours) and work on the thesis start in semester 2 after Module 5. It constitutes the scientific culmination of the MAS programme. The thesis is designed as a systematic review with or without meta-analysis and is evaluated by two independent reviewers. An oral defense before an examination committee completes the programme.

  • Completed degree in dentistry
  • Valid professional license 
  • At least 1 year of clinical professional experience

Recommendation

  • Access to a specialist dental practice during your studies, so that you can present your own cases and put what you have learnt into practice
